Saturday, September 9, 2006 – 2 to 4 PM – Mural Unveiling

Hartford Public Library, Downtown Branch, 3rd Floor, 500 Main Street

The newest mural designed and created by young residents of the Sheldon/Charter Oak Neighborhood will be unveiled and the artists recognized.  Meet and congratulate these budding artists and admire their work.

Wednesday, September 13, 2006 – 10 AM to 2 PM – Opportunity Fair

St. Monica’s Episcopal Center, 41 Mather Street (one block west of Main Street)

Need a job, but finding it difficult due to prior substance abuse or incarceration?  Meet with folks from A Better Way Foundation to apply for jobs and internships, enroll in job training programs, learn about educational and volunteer opportunities, talk with representatives from an ex-offender advocacy group, and/or attend a legal aid workshop for ex-offenders.

 “Alive with History!”  Visit the “new” Old State House.  Tour the magnificently-restored historic rooms, experience the interactive audio tour, visit the immersive Education Center, see the exciting new exhibition, enjoy music, crafts, theater, and more.

Saturday, September 16, 2006 – Noon to Midnight – EARTHDANCE

Academy of the Performing Arts, Learning Corridor, corner of Retreat Avenue and Washington Street.
Adults:  $10 in advance, $15 at the door.  Children:  Free
The goal of this eco-friendly event is to support humanitarian causes through music and dance and to inspire peace lovers worldwide to unite people from all nations in a day of celebration and harmony.  Earthdance is being celebrated in other cities across the world.  The day begins with a Prayer for Peace and continues with family-friendly activities, film showings, and performances.  From 6 to 8 PM, join in the community drum and dance circle (no experience or training necessary).  Live performances and music from 8 PM to midnight.
Tickets may be purchased at the Academy Box Office (757-6388) or at the Alchemy Juice Bar, 203 New Britain Avenue (Mon-Sat 9-9, Sunday 11-6)

Bringing neighborhoods and communities together.  Over 300 paintings along with other Afrocentric items.  Artists such as john Holyfield, Poncho Brown, Frank Morrison, Charles Bibbs, Paul Goodnight, and WAK.  Family and kid-friendly activities

Each of us can make an impact in our community by getting involved in neighborhood groups, serving on City boards and commissions, informing ourselves, expressing opinions about important issues, and voting on election day.  Come learn more about how to make an impact.  Hear from community leaders on this important topic and take part in role-playing by the HartBeat Ensemble.

Celebrating Hartford’s abundance of international citizens seeking to build their lives and the community.  Help us welcome our new neighbors!  Food, games, family-friendly activities.  Featuring, in concert, People of Goodwill and other performing artists.
