History
In the 1800's, Frog Hollow was a manufacturing center of Hartford producing sewing machines, typewriters, cars, guns, and bicycles.  The establishment of the Frog Hollow/Capitol Avenue district led to the concentration of insurance companies built nearby, the development of rental housing units, and the creation of the retail district located on Park Street.  Frog Hollow developed into a totally self contained, thriving community.
In the 1890's, rental housing units boomed in the area due to the growth of factories during the post-Civil War economy, which continued to grow through WWII.  The Perfect Six, a six family rental dwelling, became the standard housing unit, built primarily in brick.
When factories closed in the 1970's and residents left for the suburbs, the demographics of the neighborhood shifted to its current dominance as the center of Hispanic culture in the Hartford region.
The North Frog Hollow NRZ's purpose is to be the catalyst for well planned community improvements, systematic revitalization, and strategic economic development in this diverse and vibrant community.

Mission
Residents, property owners, business leaders, non-profit leaders, and government entities come together on a monthly basis to create a shared vision of what North Frog Hollow is to become over the next five to ten years.
From parking and transportation, to safety and livability, to the promotion of civic pride, the North Frog Hollow NRZ is an active group of citizens and property owners who are dedicated to improving our section of this great city, and who are willing to tackle a wide range of issues.
Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month
at 6 p.m. at the Broad Park Development Corporation, located at 617 Park Street, Hartford.
